Saturday night the number 3 Syracuse squeezes by West Virginia 63 to 61 thanks to Brandon Triche who also had 18 points and scored the game winning basket with 88 seconds left. Some key players for Syracuse were: Kris Joseph finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, Scoop Jardine scored nine points with five assists and Dion Walters has eight points for the Orange. This is the Orange's third game without centre Fab Melo. Melo was at the game but he was sitting on the bench. The 7-foot Brazilian is ineligible to play becuase of academic issues byt has been practicing with the team. Some key players for the West Virginia Mountaineers were: Kevin Jones who led the mountaineers scoreboard with 20 points and eight rebounds, Darryl Bryant had 12 points, and Gary Browne scored 11 points.
Florida continues there home victory streak to 17 games with a win against No. 18 Mississippi State 69 to 57. Still dealing with his tendinitis in his right ankle Patrick Young ended the game with 12 points and six rebounds for the Gators. Other key players include: Erik Murphy who added 14 points thanks to his 4 out of 7 3-point rage, and Erving Walker who threw up another 10 points. Arnett Moultrie led Mississippi State with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Sunday
Notre Dame opened the second half of their game against No. 24 UCONN with a 13-0 point run bringing them back into the game. Notre Dame won 50 to 48. Three key players for Notre Dame are: Eric Atkins who scored 13 points, Jerian Grant who added 11 points, and Scott Martin who had 10 points. Jeremy Lamb led the Huskies scoring with 16 points, freshman Andre Drummond came a close second with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Drummond and Lamb scored 15 of the team's 24 points in the first half.
On Sunday night January 29, 2012 Iowa State Cyclones won what could be one of the biggest upsets in the season so far. The Iowa State Cyclones beat the No. 5 Kansas Jawhawks 72 to 64, which ended the 10 game winning streak for Kansas. The star of the game was Royce White of the Cyclones who had 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Melvin Ejim added another 15 points for Iowa and Scott Christopherson finished with 14 points. Two key players for the Kansas Jawhawks were: Tyshawn Taylor who led Kansas with 16 point, and Thomas Robison who scored 13 points.
