Kentucky Wildcats won their 47th consecutive home win against the Alabama Tide 77 to 71. Alabama made sure it wasn't a easy win for Kentucky, it was a very physical game with a total of 45 team fouls combined between the two teams. Key players for the Wildcats include: Doron Lamb with 14 points; freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist who scored 13 points; Darius Miller dropped 11 points; and freshman Marquis Teague scored 10 points. Both Trevors on the Alabama Crimson Tide were both key players. Trevor Releford scored 17 points all of which were in the last half, and Trevor Lacey added another 10 for Alabama. Another key player for the Tide was JaMychal Green who scored 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Michigan Wolverines No. 20 fell short on saturday night when they lost to Arkansas Razorbacks 66 to 64. Arkansas shot 50% on the court of which Mardracus Wade scored 12 points, and both Rickey Scott and Hunter Mickelson scored 11 points. Another key player for the Razorbacks was BJ Young who put up 15 points on the board. Zack Novak led the Wolverines with 17 points, and a close second was Jordan Morgan who scored 16. Trey Burke scored added another 13 points for Michigan.
There was no lions playing basketball in saturday night but there was an uproar when the No. 5 Missouri Tigers beat the No. 3 Baylor Bears 89 to 88. Both teams shot very well Missouri shot 55% and Baylor shot 57%. Both teams are considered two of the best shooting teams in the league. This was the first time since 1994 that the Tigers won against a Top 5 team on the road. Ricardo Ratliffe scored his career high of 27 points on 11 of 14 shooting for the Tigers. Ratliffe is shooting 77% from the feild this season. Three other key players for the Tigers were: Phil Pressey who had 18 points; Marcus Denmon added 15 points; and Kin English scored 10 points. Baylor was coming off a 92-74 loss against No. 7 Kansas before facing the Tigers. The loss against Kansas ended the Bears' record 17 game winning streak. The loss against the Tigers ended their 10 game home winning streak. Some key players for the Bears were: freshman Quincy Miller who led Baylor with 29 points; Pierre Jackson added 20 points with 15 assists; Quincy Acy had 18 points with 9 rebounds; and Brady Heslip assisted the score with 10 points.
Some would say it was a fluke buzzer shot that brought the FSU Seminoles a victory of the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils. Micheal Snaer scored 14 points for Florida State on Saturday night including the game winning three point shot to make the final score 76 t 73 for FSU. This win over Duke broke the Blue Devils 45 home court winning streak. Besides Snaer other key players for FSU were: Xavier Gibson scored 16 points; and Bernard James who scored 12 points with 8 rebounds. They key layer for Duke was Austin Rivers who lit up the scoreboard with 19 points.
Clearly saturday night was a night for upsets, and underdogs. So why stop the pattern now? On saturday night Notre Dame irish beat No. 1 Syracuse 67-58. Syracuse was without starting centre Fab Melo for this game, and without Melo, 6ft. 9", 248 lbs Jack Cooley was a major problem for the Orange. It was the first time the irish has beaten a top-ranked team since 1987 when they defeated North Carolina. One of the Irish's most dramatic victories against a No.1 came in 1974, when they stopped UCLA's 88 game winning streak by 71 to 70 victory. Jack Cooley put up 17 points on the baord and 10 rebounds for the Irish, and Scott Martin added 13 points. James Southerland was the top scorer for Syracuse with 15 points.
Sunday
Sunday night No.11 Indiana beat Penn State by 19 points with a final score of 73-54. Some key players for Indiana were: Cody Zeller who put up 18 points; and Jordan Hulls who scored 14 points. Tim Frazier was the top scorer for the Penn State Panthers with 21 points. Another key player for the Panthers was Nick Colella who added 11 points to the score.
As everyone can probably tell it was a big underdog weekend. All of the lower ranked teams held their own and beat the higher ranked teams, creating massive upset in the rankings.
